Shawn Benn

I began my coaching career at 16 and am Coach Level 2 Trained, Checking 1 Trained, and Development 1 Certified.
Over the years, I’ve coached players at every level—from House League to High School boys and girls—with four trips to OFSAA along the way. 
Over the past 12 years, I’ve been part of the North Halton Twisters organization, progressing through House League, DS, and into the Rep program.
During my time at the Rep level with the North Halton Twisters, I also served as an assistant coach with the Winterhawks. Most recently, I was the head coach for a Milton House League team as well as the Milton U14 Select team. These experiences have allowed me to grow as a coach while working within highly competitive environments. 
My coaching philosophy centers on one core belief: development comes first. While winning is always exciting, true success is measured by player growth—improved skills, stronger hockey IQ, confidence, effort, and a commitment to being a great teammate. I am dedicated to helping every athlete advance both technically and mentally, preparing them to compete at the next level.  I bring a positive, energetic, and supportive approach to every practice and game. I believe players perform at their best when they feel encouraged, challenged, and valued. My coaching environment emphasizes hard work, resilience, and learning through mistakes. I strive to make the rink a place where players feel motivated, confident, and excited to contribute to the team. 
I’m excited to see the effort, energy, and passion each player brings to the upcoming evaluations. My goal is to ensure every athlete makes the most of this opportunity and walks away proud of their performance.×
