U14 A - Dave Myson
Dave is a Milton resident and is
excited and honoured to be selected as the coach of the U14A Milton Winterhawks
for the 2025/26 season. This will be his second season with this team. Dave is
a former professional hockey player as well as being a 2x Canadian University
Champion with the University of Alberta Golden Bears (1999 & 2000). Along
with that Dave played 4 years of junior hockey in western Canada finishing as
captain of the team his last two seasons.
While playing junior, Dave was selected as an assistant captain on the AJHL Selects that went on to be silver medalists in the International Viking Cup tournament. Dave won the most dedicated player award for an entire league(AJHL 1997/98) and multiple teams he has played on. Dave brings these experiences and the same level of dedication to his responsibilities as a head coach. Dave is a strong believer in the game of hockey being a great way to learn life skills. He was awarded the prestigious Academic All Canadian award twice while playing at the University of Alberta. Taking a page from his university days, he has introduced a book study with the teams he coaches (this year his team is covering "Hockey Confidence"). Dave believes being able to balance both academics and athletics are critical life skills for all hockey players and he understands his role to develop this skill. Dave has coached multiple levels from house league to AAA and will tell you two things sum up all great teams and athletes... Belief and hard work! Dave started his coaching career in Edmonton, Alberta coaching at the Vimy Ridge Hockey Academy (2003-2005) and was lucky to coach alongside former NHL players. Dave's teams are known for their work ethic and Dave loves the quote from Henry Ford “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t - you’re right”. His goal as a coach is to help the players earn confidence in themselves, develop as players and together with their teammates achieve success.
