Jonathan has an extensive background in sports performance and coaching.
Although his coaching background extends to other sports beyond hockey, his
coaching philosophy has stayed the same.
At the heart of his coaching philosophy is a
simple but important goal: To help players develop their skills while fostering
a genuine love for the game. He believes that hockey should be challenging,
rewarding, and, above all, fun. By building strong relationships with players,
tailoring instruction to their individual needs, and encouraging a growth
mindset. His focus is to create an environment where players can compete,
improve, and create lasting memories.
Jonathan promotes a healthy active lifestyle
both for mind and body. His formal education consists of a Diploma in Fitness
and Health Promotion from Humber College, and Bachelor’s Degrees in both
Kinesiology from the Universities of Guelph and Education from the University
of Toronto. Subsequently, he continued his education by obtaining
certifications as a Certified Personal Trainer from the Canadian Society of
Exercise Physiology and both a Performance Enhancement Specialist and a
Corrective Exercise Specialist from the National Academy of Sports
Medicine.
As a performance coach he has developed and
facilitated sport specific performance training in the head coach position that
assisted in players continuing to play professionally in each discipline (NHL,
NBA, CFL, NLL). When it comes to hockey, he has worked with some of the best in
the business. His experience ranges from on-ice instruction with goalie coach
Jon Elkin of the Pittsburgh Penguins, to off-ice performance training for NHL
players both in Canada and United States.
