PrintU16-U21 Programming

U16-21 Houseleague program

WHAT IS IT?

  • A program for the continued development of our young adults as hockey players.
  • The main focus is on Development and Fun.
  • Aim is to keep our older players participating in the game.

WHO IS IT FOR AND WHAT DOES IT CONSIST OF?

  • This is a Hockey Program for the U16-21 (15 to 20 yr olds)
  • Teams are typically blended.
  • The program is a "Full Ice" program and consists of 1 to 2 games a week. The focus is on games only, and there are not practices at this age level. We maintain a consistent schedule so our players are able to balance other commitments such as school and work.
    • Sunday afternoon/evenings
    • Wednesday evenings

  • Your child should have been participating in organized hockey for a minimum of 3 seasons to join this program.

THE PROGRAM

The program is specifically in place for providing houseleague and previous rep players an opportunity to continue participating in organized hockey.

Registration opens annually in March or early April.  Our season starts from the end of September to early October and culminates end March with a Tournament of Champs week. Players can register directly from our home page.

Exact scheduled times will be determined once registration closes and our ice permits are secured from the Town of Milton. Schedules will be posted before season start. Please visit the website, select your players age group and navigate to teams. Scroll down for full calendar.

The league will provide timekeepers for all games.  This is a community hours program.  If your player requires hours to graduate, please contact us.

ADVANCED HOUSELEAGUE PROGRAM

Facilitated through our representative stream, our AHL program is comprised of houseleague players who will benefit from a more advanced level of house league play.  AHL players are required to tryout and be selected for the team.  Our AHL teams are stand alone teams and do not play in our Houseleague Loop.  At present, our Ahl teams join the Mississauga RED loop for the season.

AHL teams practice twice a week and play up to 32 games a season in the Mississauga RED loop.  They have the opportunity to play up to 4 exhibition games with outside centres each month, and attend up to 3 tournaments each season.

AHL  teams have a budget for team jerseys, socks, added ice time, refs, tournaments and development. As such, there is an extra fee for players on these teams.

ARE ALL PROGRAMS THE SAME?

MMHA provides a program that is sanctioned by Hockey Canada.  We ensure that all of our Head Coaches, bench staff and on ice volunteers have the required qualifications as mandated annually by Hockey Canada, the Ontario Hockey Federation and by the Ontario Minor Hockey Association.  We also follow the manual of operations of Hockey Canada, the OHF and the OMHA.

MORE ON MMHA VOLUNTEERS

Our association is mainly volunteer driven. Other than the development groups we retain to facilitate development sessions through the season, all on ice Instruction Personnel are volunteers and are not paid Instructors.

All volunteers have completed at minimum two online courses, along with Rowan’s Law (concussion) instruction and have provided the Ontario Hockey Federation with a current police check with a vulnerable sector screen.

Each team requires a Head Coach.  Head Coaches have completed additional training including a Hockey Canada approved clinic that covers running a "typical ice session" refining Teaching Skills, Skills Analysis, Leadership, Communication, Growth & Development, and Lesson Organization.

Each team also requires a Team Trainer. Trainers have completed additional training in the prevention, recognition and management of hockey-related injuries.  The course is the only sport-specific risk management, injury management and safety education program in Ontario.
