Explanation of Levels of Play (Milton Minor Hockey)

PrintExplanation of Levels of Play
MMHA offers Houseleague and Representative play.

Other than the traditional houseleague and rep levels there are a few other options for our more developed players looking for more competitive hockey.

(Note: these programs are not guaranteed to be offered annually and are dependent on OMHA approval, interest/skill level, registration numbers and other factors)

MD (Minor Dev't) program:

  • currently offered for U7,  U8 and U9
  • Players must live in OMHA Boundaries
  • Players ONLY play on this team
  • Non-contact (no body checking at any age group)
  • Travelling team, in a local loop currently determined by TriCounty/OMHA
  • Top up fees to cover added costs (extra ice/jerseys, jamborees etc)
  • On ice 2-3 times a week,
  • Tryouts for U7 in fall, for U8 and 9 in Spring as per OHF guidelines

Select program:

  • Potentially for U7 to U18 age groups, determined annually, dependent on interest/skill level-typically one team per age group
  • Players for this team are "selected" from their houseleague teams.   They play on both teams.
  • On ice with their select team (minimum once a week) AND on ice with their houseleague team (typically twice a week).
  • Weekly Milton select ice can be used for a practice or an exhibition game vs. another centre.
  • If playing in the Tri-County Select league, there are predetermined teams per division along with a predetermined loop. Teams can be blended 2-ages, or 1-age. League scheduler manages games.
  • If playing in a traditional Select team, there is no set loop. Teams find their own opponents.
  • Top up fee to cover jerseys/extra ice, tournaments, possible league fees etc.
  • Players do not need to reside in Milton
  • Non-Contact (no body checking at any age group)
  • Tryouts in the Fall if program is offered

Advanced Houseleague Program:

  • Top up fee to cover jerseys/full ice practices, tournaments, league fees etc.
