Vaccine policy update
everyone is doing well as we get closer to the beginning of the 2021-2022
We have fielded a number of inquiries recently from members asking whether the Ontario Government’s vaccine certificate/passport announced yesterday affects the Ontario Minor Hockey Association's (OMHA) new vaccinations policy. Specifically, several members have asked whether the provincial exemption pertaining to children between the ages of 12 and 18 participating in indoor sports will impact the OMHA's policy.
It is important to note that the provincial government's announcement yesterday and the OMHA's new policy on vaccinations are separate items. However, the OMHA informed us today that it is reviewing the government's announcement and that it will send out a communication on the subject no later than Monday, Sept. 20.
As we've previously communicated, the current OMHA policy states that all players born in 2009 or earlier will be required to be fully vaccinated (meaning two doses of a Health Canada-approved vaccine + 14 days after second dose was administered) by October 31, 2021, to participate in OMHA-sanctioned events. To be clear this not a Milton Minor Hockey Association policy but is a policy implemented by the OMHA. As one of the OMHA's 219 member member associations, we are required to enforce this policy at a local level. Thank you for your continued patience.
Take care and stay safe,
MMHA Board of Directors
