June 2021 Newsletter
Dear members,
I hope that you and your families are doing well and are staying safe during this ongoing pandemic. I want to take this opportunity to reflect on the past season and provide some insight as to what next year will look like.

We all can agree that the 2020-21 season did not turn out the way we had hoped but we were fortunate to be able to keep our players on the ice longer than a lot of organizations. I understand that not being able to play games was not ideal but as an organization we felt it was beneficial for the players to continue the season for as long as possible.

I would like to thank the parents/guardians who placed their trust in us to provide a safe environment in which the player could continue to develop their skills. Your adherence to the Covid-19 protocols was integral in us being able to continue to provide programming.

Thank you to all the coaches, trainers, managers and Covid-19 screeners who ensured our protocols were followed by and communicated to our parents and players. These volunteers put in a lot of time and effort during a regular year ensuring our players are taught the skills to succeed both on and off the ice. This year they took on the additional responsibility to communicate and enforce the constantly changing Covid-19 protocols and screening requirements. Due to these efforts we can report we had no Covid-19 cases attributed to MMHA activities this past season. Great job everyone!

As we have mentioned in previous communications without the cooperation of the Town of Milton our season could have been over in November when the amount of players allowed on the ice was reduced to 10 from 20. They worked with us to come up with a solution that allowed us to continue and I would like to thank them for their efforts. There were many hockey organizations outside of Milton who had their seasons cut short due to their municipality not being as accommodating as thTown of Milton.

We would like to thank our sponsors who remained committed to our teams in a challenging year: Aim Lock & Safe, Allstate, C.B. Stealth Express, Halton Roadside Assistance, Healthy Planet, John's No Frills, McDonalds, Milton Orthodontics, Ohana Family Salon, Oxford Learning, Scotiabank and Tim Horton's.  We would also like to thank KCK and Play It Again Sports for their continued support.

Last but not least I would like to thank our Admin staff and Board members for all their hard work during the season. The many changes to protocols resulted in frequent meetings and constant schedule changes. Thank you all for your hard work this season.

Now let’s take a look towards the future. Our plan is to open up registration on Jun17, 2021 with more information being posted on the website shortly. The proposed OHF plan for the 2021/2022 season will allow us to resume on ice activities starting September 7, 2021 with AA tryouts tentatively scheduled to start September 17,

2021 for the U12-U18 age groups (the U11 and below groups will start 1 week later). All dates/plans are obviously dependent on the state of the Covid-19 virus. Further details on dates and costs for tryouts will be forthcoming in the next couple oweeks.

Our house league is tentatively scheduled to start the week of October 11, 2021. We will be returning to the format of one game and one practice a week for U8-U15 and games only for U16 and above. Our U5-U7 program will be similar to past years, with U5's on the ice once a week, and U6/7's with alternating 1 and 2 ice times per week.

Our AGM will be held approximately one month after registration opens for th2021/2022 season. The timing is due to the MMHA constitutional requirement that to be an active member, dues must be paid for the upcoming season. We will be setting the date for the AGM in the next couple of weeks and will provide a list of board positions that will be up for election this year.

Thank you once again for your patience and understanding during this time. We are fortunate as an association to have such a great group of parents and volunteers, because without you we would be unable to operate. I look forward to seeing you all at the AGM and I hope we will see you all back as members for the 2021/2022 season.

Thank you and stay safe,
Jeff Diggle
