We wish we were able to communicate to you that
we would be resuming programming shortly but as we all know the new
restrictions that have been implemented by the Government of Ontario mean that we will be unable to resume programming until
February 12, 2021 at the earliest.
We do not have a crystal ball to determine whether we will be able to resume programming on that date but we will continue to monitor the situation and will provide communication to you, as we get closer to that date.
Our intent is to resume programming once we are able to, with an end date of March 31, 2021. Due to the extended period of the current lockdown, it is clear that we will be unable to provide you the promised ice time by March 31, 2021. As such, there will be a prorated refund paid out at the end of the season per our posted refund policy. We will do an accounting review immediately after March 31, 2021 and prorated refunds will be processed by the end of April as per our refund policy.
Possible season extension April 1 to May 31, 2021
We participated in an OHF meeting on Tuesday January 12, 2021 where a season extension from April 1 to May 31, 2021 was outlined for the U11 to U18 age groups. The extension will be subject to Halton Region Public Health returning to at least to the Orange Zone, which would allow us to conduct games.
Based on initial discussions with the OHF, the season for the U10 and below age groups would end on March 31st, 2021 with no extended season permitted.
This plan still needs sanctioning by the OHF, OMHA, Halton Public Health and the Town of Milton before it can proceed but if this is approved and we decide to participate, there will be a separate registration and fee schedule for this programming. Please watch for further details as they become available.
Outlook for 2021/2022 season
During the OHF meeting it was conveyed to us that there will be no spring tryouts this year for any sanctioned minor hockey association or league in Ontario. The earliest tryouts will take place is in September with a timeframe that will be announced in the next couple of months. The OHF has requested input regarding further changes to next season’s framework from all hockey organizations in the province and we have already begun to work on our submission. Further details to be provided as they become available from the OHF and OMHA.
We want to take this time to thank our volunteers, coaches, assistant coaches, and trainers who, without their efforts, we would not have been able to provide programming this season. This year has thrown us many curveballs but you have all stepped up and ensured we could provide programming, all while looking after the health and safety of our members.
Thank you and stay safe,
Milton Minor Hockey Association Board of Directors
