Return to Play Update
Submitted By Tanya Croke on Thursday, October 15, 2020
Dear Members,

As the number of cases of Covid-19 has risen across the province there have been numerous changes made to the rules for how team sports can operate.

Unfortunately we are not immune to this and received the following notification from the Town of Milton this afternoon:

The Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH) for the Region of Halton has recommended that all scrimmage and game play for team sports indoors be temporarily suspended within the Region and its four municipalities.

In order to continue to limit the spread of Covid-19 and protect the wellbeing of its residents, the Town of Milton will comply with these recommendations effective immediately. Individual training within the team environment will still be permitted. Capacity limits will remain status quo at the current time but participants must remain 2 metres (6 feet) apart at all times and only participate in individual skill type drills/exercises.

We do not have a timeline on when these new restrictions may be lifted only that they have been classified as temporary by the Halton CMOH.  So what does that mean for Milton Minor Hockey and its members? This means that we will continue to provide the prescribed amount of ice times per week as outlined in the return to play but the Town of Milton will not be permitting games or scrimmages during those ice times.

Team development will be permitted with the same on ice limit of 20 skaters and 3 instructors but the participants must remain 2 meters (6 feet) apart at all times. The hope is that this is a short term situation and that we can commence game play shortly.   The Board of Directors want to emphasize the role that we all play in helping prevent the spread of Covid-19 and the importance of following the protocols as laid out in our Return to Play plan.

As a reminder each participant and spectator is required to complete the online screener within 12 hours before each team activity whether it is on or off the ice as well as confirming within 1 hour that the participant’s condition has not changed. It is also required that you do not enter the facility until 10 minutes before your scheduled ice time and that you leave within 10 minutes of your activity finishing.

Players are to arrive fully dressed in their equipment except their helmet, skates and gloves which is to be carried in a backpack sized bag if required (no large hockey bags).  In addition please ensure that you follow the entry and exit procedures for each facility as outlined on our website, this includes the wearing of masks in all area except when the player/coach is on the ice.

There will be zero tolerance for those teams or individuals who do not follow the protocols as their actions will affect us all and how we are allowed to operate.

If we work together and follow the proper procedures we can help reduce the transmission of Covid-19 and facilitate the return of game play for our players. We want to thank you all for your patience and understanding during this unprecedented time. Our goal remains to deliver what was promised in a fun and safe environment. We will continue to update you as we receive more information.

Thank you and stay safe,

Milton Minor Hockey Association Board of Directors
