MMHA COVID-19 UPDATE #3 - REGISTRATION
Submitted By Tracy Gaetan on Friday, May 15, 2020
Like all Canadians, the MMHA Board of Directors continues to monitor the ever changing COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic situation. Yesterday the government of Ontario announced additional workplaces that can reopen on Tuesday, May 19 as a part of their Phase One of Ontario’s Reopening.

This reopening included the following statement:

“Seasonal businesses and recreational activities for individual or single competitors, including training and sport competitions conducted by a recognized national or provincial sport organization. This includes indoor and outdoor non-team sport competitions that can be played while maintaining physical distancing and without spectators, such as tennis, track and field and horse racing.”

This is a positive step forward for sport in the Province. It is important to note that the announcement is specific to individual sports and does not include the reopening of any hockey or hockey-activities within the Province of Ontario as of yet.

The MMHA Board of Directors recently met via teleconference as we continue to prepare for the return of hockey related activities. With that in mind the MMHA Board of Directors voted to open registration for the 2020-2021 season on June 15, 2020. Understanding the financial impact that has been placed on many of our member families by the Covid-19 situation, the MMHA will be implementing payment options (details to follow) to try and mitigate the financial impact of paying for your child’s hockey registration. Please note that we do not have any direction when tryouts may begin for the representative program, so again please stay tuned.

We will continue to closely monitor Public Health’s guidance and await the Premier and Hockey Canada’s Board of Directors announcements to resume sanctioned hockey operations.

Stay Healthy & Safe.
