Milton AE Tournament Recap.
Excitement was in the air as the Milton Winterhawks Atom AE Blue squad began their 2017-18 season with the Doug Thomson Memorial AE tournament in hometown Milton.  A series of dryland trainings and on ice workouts prepared the team for our kick off match on Friday morning against the Flamborough Sabres.  It was a defensive duel as both teams managed to hammer home 16 shots, but not a single one lit the lamp.  Thomas Cuthbert began the game and was picked up at the 5 minute mark of the 2nd period by Riley MacDonald as they shared the shutout to lead our boys in blue to a 0-0 tie.

Game 2 on Friday pitted us against the Woolwich Wildcats.  Defense was again the name of the game although both the shot total and the final score favoured the opponent on this day.   MacDonald faced 28 shots over the course of the game, stopping all but the lone goal in a 1-0 loss.  Milton only managed 8 shots in total and were left off the scoresheet for the second straight game.

Saturday brought a new day and new hope as we squared off with the Orillia Terriers.  This time it would be our turn to shut the door as we excelled in a solid 4-0 win.  Toby Semple fired home the first goal of our season in the 1st period.  A scoreless second was followed up by a barrage of 3 goals in the third.  First Matthew Brimicombe struck, followed by Jacob Dunphy and capped off by Arjun Dinidigal with an empty netter.  Cuthbert turned aside all 18 shots in a shutout performance.

The round robin ended with a 1-1-1 record.  An impressive 0.33 team goals against average would be put to the test against our hometown rivals, the Milton Winterhawks Atom AE White.  The boys in white finished the round robin 3-0-0 and collected 15 goals with only 2 against.  Riley MacDonald was tasked with the challenge between the pipes.  The first period saw a back and forth effort but White found a way to head into the break with a 1-0 lead.  The remainder of the game tilted in favour of White as they exploded for 31 shots in total in a 7-0 loss for the Blue squad.

While the tournament ended abruptly, the Atom AE Blue boys played fierce and showed great signs of things to come.  We would like to thanks our tournament sponsors Apex Floral Distributors and NGC Constructors LTD. for their generous support.  Without them, we could not make this possible.
