2019-20 Registration Info (Milton Minor Hockey)

Print2019-20 Registration Info

Welcome to the 2019-20 MMHA On-line Registration.

PLEASE READ ALL INFORMATION THOROUGHLY. All players will register in House League (regardless of intentions to attend rep tryouts) for their actual division based on year of birth.
Registration is not considered complete until full payment has been received and the one time Parent Respect in Sport Online course has been completed (additional charge).

Parents/guardians registering their players are required to read through this material prior to registering.  By registering for the season, the family acknowledges their understanding of, and agreement with all of the following:

  • Registration is limited to a certain number of teams, predetermined by available ice.  All registrations are treated on a first come, first served basis.  Divisions may fill prior to the end of the Early Bird.  Once a division is full, you will not be able to register on line.  Please follow the directions on the front of our website to be placed on a waiting list.
  • Try Outs: Please refer to the website and news articles for the tryout process and dates/times of each division’s tryout.  MMHA policy allows players to tryout at a maximum of 2 levels above their current level of play.  Tryout schedules are posted by April 1st.  Some divisions try out in the spring, and some in the fall.  Any player/goalie wishing to try out for an MD or REP team must be signed up and paid in full, by Sunday, April 14th to be able to participate.  Tryout fees of $100 for rep players/goalies and $40 for MD players/goalies apply.
  • Returning players can register online using Visa Debit, Visa or MasterCard until the close of registration, or until the division is full, whichever comes first.  Please take the time to verify/update contact information on your player’s Hockey Canada profile.
  • New players will be required to fill out the “New Member Hockey Canada Profile Request” online form prior to registering online.  Please go to our website and follow the instructions on our home page for “new players”. Proof of age and residency will be required.  Once the completed form has been received by the office, a Hockey Canada Profile will be created for the player.  This can take up to two weeks, depending on the volume of requests. Once complete, you will receive an email with registration instructions. When registering online, please take some time to fill in your contact information, including addresses and contact info, especially email addresses.  This is the information the MMHA uses to contact you.  Members do not have log in privileges to the Milton Minor Hockey website

Respect in Sport Parent Program:  The OMHA mandates that one parent/guardian of every player complete the Respect in Sport Parent Program.   Due to OMHA regulations, players will not be allowed on the ice for evaluations, practices or games until this course has been completed.   There is a separate charge for this course, paid to the Respect Group, who manages the on line program.  Please navigate to www.miltonwinterhawks.com>parents corner>Parent RIS access instructions.

  • New to Milton? Please note that if your child has previously played for another Centre, you will be unable to register with MMHA until an Association Transfer has been completed through the OMHA.  To initiate a transfer, please forward your child's name, address and date of birth to transfers@miltonwinterhawks.com.
  • Special Requests: The MMHA will no longer accept special player requests to play for coaches or with friends.  Our main focus is team balancing, in an attempt to ensure every player in the association has a fair and equitable season.
  • Medical Conditions: We ask families of all players with special conditions to complete the medical information form (located under the Parent's Corner tab on the website) and provide it to the team trainer at their first practice. This form must be provided annually as medical records are not kept from year to year.
  • Sibling Discount: 3rd & Subsequent Family Member Flat Registration Fee:  Milton Minor Hockey offers a third and subsequent family member flat registration fee of $305.00.  This fee is applied to the youngest family member.  In the event the youngest family member is of Beginner age, the flat registration fee will be $220.00 for the Beginner-age child. To receive the discount, please register children oldest to youngest on the same transaction.  A discount will be applied to those family members’ registration fees upon clicking the ‘Checkout’ button.  If you encounter any problems, please contact houseleague[email protected] .
  • Early Bird Registration Fee MMHA offers a discount to players who register and pay their registration fees in full by June 30, 2019.  Please note: Spaces fill up quickly, and divisions may fill prior to the end of the Early Bird.  Please refer to the fee structure below.
  • Refund Policy All refund, cancellation or withdrawal requests must be submitted using our online form (found on our website under the Parents Corner tab>Registration Info>refund request) up until 14 days after their first scheduled ice time. Our refund policy is posted on our website under the MMHA Policies tab. All refunds are subject to a $50 administrative fee.

  • Attention Goalies: MMHA does not guarantee that any goalie will be the only goaltender on a House league team. Many house league teams will have two goalies.  Developing goalies along with players is a necessity and any player wishing to play that position should be given the opportunity to do so. Goalies may be placed in divisions higher or lower than birth year, dependent on development and surplus/deficiency of goalies at the discretion of the MMHA. If registering as a goalie, please note the following:
    • when registering online ensure you select the “Goaltender” drop down under POSITION
    • Immediately, upon registering as a goalie, email the office at [email protected] advising them, for tracking purposes, that you have registered a player as a house league goalie.  Include name and year of birth.  If the goalie has previously played “rep”, please include this info.
  • Interested in volunteering? MMHA relies very heavily on volunteers to help our program run. How can you help? Navigate to our website and fill in the volunteer application under the volunteer/sponsors tab.
    • Our Board of Directors is made up of volunteers who have children playing with the MMHA.  If you are interested in a Board position, please contact our Secretary at [email protected] for more info.

·        Timekeepers/Office Help:  Are you a high school student looking for community hours?  Please contact our admin staff at [email protected] for info on volunteer opportunities on and off the ice.

·        Tournament Volunteers:  The MMHA hosts a number of tournaments through the season.  Volunteers are needed in the tournament office and with timekeeping. Please contact [email protected] for more information.

·        Bench staff:  Parents/Guardians can help out in various ways with our teams.  We are always on the lookout for coaches, trainers and helpers.  We need to comply with regulations as set out by the OMHA (Ontario Minor Hockey Association), so bench staff require the following:

o   All bench staff AND on ice volunteers must complete the Respect in Sport Activity Leader course.  The link can be found on our website under the “Coaches Corner” tab. We will repay for the course. This is not the mandatory parent course, rather it is a course for coaches and bench staff.

o   All bench staff AND on ice volunteers must complete the Gender Identity and Expressions online course.  The link can be found on our website under the Clinics and Certifications tab. The course is free.

o   All bench staff AND on ice volunteers require a current (within three seasons from date of issue) police check that includes a Vulnerable Sector Screen.

o   Each team requires a coach.  The coach must have specific coach qualifications as set out by the OMHA, along with the Respect course, gender course and police check

o   Each team requires a trainer.  The link to the trainer course can be found on our website under the Managers/Trainers Corner tab.  The course is designed to educate people in the prevention, recognition and management of hockey-related injuries and is the only sport-specific risk management, injury management and safety education program in Ontario.  The trainer also requires the Respect course, gender course and police check.  We repay for the course.

Please understand that these mandatory qualifications must be met within two weeks of the beginning of the season or a team may be required to forfeit ice time until such time as they are met.

  • Interested in Sponsoring? MMHA is grateful to all of our wonderful sponsors who, through their generous donations, help keep hockey affordable for over 1,800 players in Milton.  For a nominal fee, sponsors can have their business logo on our website and their business name on name plates affixed to a team’s jerseys.  For an additional fee, sponsors can also have player names affixed to a team’s jerseys.  If you are interested in more information, or in sponsoring a team, please visit our website and navigate to the Volunteers/Sponsors tab.
  • Our Season:
    • Ice Schedule:   The season schedule is typically available online as of the end of August, once the Town has released our ice permits.  We do our best to keep the house league schedule the same from season to season, however alterations to times may be necessary depending upon availability of ice.
    • House League Evaluations: All divisions except Beginner, Midget and Senior will be on the ice for player evaluations in September/October.  The season typically starts end Sept/early Oct and runs until the end of March.  The schedule for evaluations and the upcoming season will be posted once registration closes and numbers are finalized.  Your coach will be in contact by end September with your team placement.

  • Online Schedules and Information: Please check our website regularly for updates regarding pre-season evaluations, schedules and other pertinent information.   Information regarding Jumpstart and other funding programs, mandatory hockey equipment, and schedules can all be found on the website. Once the season has started, it is the parent’s responsibility to check their schedule weekly.  MMHA is not responsible for missed games due to scheduling changes.
  • MMHA Policies: All Members of the MMHA, including parents, players and volunteers are required to familiarize themselves with, and abide by all MMHA policies, including the MMHA Code of Conduct, Social Media/Networking Policy, Helmet Policy and Goalie Fair Play Guidelines.  The documents can be found on our website at under the MMHA Policies/Library tab.
  • Medical Information Sheet: If your player has any medical issues including but not limited to asthma and allergies, please print and fill out a medical information sheet (found under the Parent’s Corner tab on our website).  Give this sheet to your child’s coach or trainer prior to their first ice time.
  • Concussion Pre Season Baseline Testing It is recommended that once a year, before each new season, a player has an IMPACT baseline test.  This is a computerized cognitive test which takes 30-40 minutes and costs approximately $30 (covered under most benefit packages with physiotherapy allowances).  Parents/Guardians are required to familiarize themselves with MMHA’s Concussion Protocol. For more information, visit the Concussion Protocol link under the Trainer’s Corner tab on our home page.
  • Having Difficulty Registering Online? When registering online, you will be asked for your email and password. If you cannot recall your password, click the link to request a new one. If you cannot log in with your email, please contact the MMHA office to verify your account information.  New members will need to click the “create a new account” link to register online.  Please do so only after the office has verified that your player’s Hockey Canada Profile has been set up. Members do not have log in privileges to the Milton Minor Hockey website.
