Tyke Hockey Season Information Meeting
Submitted By Tracy Gaetan on Thursday, June 14, 2018
As you may know, Hockey Canada has mandated players 8-years-old and under will participate in modified-ice games, which includes cross-ice or half-ice programming. The OMHA is proactively approaching this nation-wide initiative by implementing the Half-Ice Program to Tyke for the 2018-2019 season and will continue to roll out the mandate into Novice for the 2019-2020 season.

More information on this mandate and its implementation can be found on the OMHA Web Site (www.omha.net). As a result of this mandate, the Tyke 1, Tyke 2, and Tyke 3 teams as they had previously run at full ice had to be eliminated for the 2018-2019 season and has left many parents wondering - where can our kids go for Rep hockey?

The Milton Winterhawks believe in the development benefits of Cross-Ice and half ice Programming and are in full support of the OMHA and Hockey Canada's mandates. We do also acknowledge that there are varying levels of skill at these younger age groups and recognize that the players who are more advanced in their skills should have the opportunity to develop at the highest levels possible.

With that in mind, we are working on a Half-Ice, Rep-Style program for Tyke aged (2011 born) players and would like to invite all parents of Tyke aged (2011 born) players to a meeting on Wednesday June 27th to be held at the Lion’s Hall (Upstairs at Memorial Arena) at 7:00pm, to update you as best we can regarding the proposed program, player evaluation dates etc.

Thank you.

Regards,

Trevor Nkiwane
