Winterhawks AA minor peewee prevail at Silver Stick Regionals
Fortifying their efforts in a high stakes rematch with the London Jr. Knights Green, Milton’s AA minor peewees clinched the Stratford Silver Stick Regional Qualifier.

Having battled to a 1-1 stalemate in their initial encounter, the Winterhawks dominated at both ends of the ice en route to a 6-1 championship rout — and advancement to the international tournament in Newmarket Jan. 12-15.

David Barber highlighted the final with a pair of shorthanded goals — his third and fourth of the week — while Max Oldacre was rock solid between the pipes to clinch the team’s third tournament championship of the season.

John Harper also tallied twice with the title on the line and assisted on the opening goal by Christian Lemaire, who finished with a goal and an assist.

Rounding out the scoring was Tristan Tremble, while Ethan Rye contributed two assists.

Oldacre and Jack Wolchuk were both sharp in net and enjoyed formidable defensive support as the Winterhawks went unbeaten in five games and outscored the opposition a combined 24-4.

“It was another overall team effort, led by strong defence and balanced scoring,” said head coach John Hendry.

Milton turned back challenges from West Mall Lightning (3-0), Halton Hills Thunder (8-0) and Orangeville (6-2) on the way to the championship.

Barber and Tremble led with four goals, while 11 different players had two or more points.

Rye enjoyed the biggest slice of the scoring pie with three goals and five assists.
