Peewee Winterhawks soar to Scotiabank Cup title
Balanced scoring and suffocating defence proved to be a formidable one-two punch for the peewee AA Winterhawks at this past weekend’s Scotiabank Cup.

Milton outscored its opposition a combined 34-6 at the Mississauga tournament, with its decisive run capped with a 5-2 victory over the Newmarket Redmen.

Tristan Tremble factored into almost all of the championship game scoring, scoring twice and assisting on two other goals to punctuate a team-leading 13-point weekend.

Also tallying twice was Jake Mallory, while Owen Stott rounded out the scoring.

Jack Wolchuk was between the pipes to complete a rock-solid goaltending campaign with Max Oldacre. Each surrendered just three goals over the weekend.

Two-goal efforts by John Harper and Kyle Ilao led the Winterhawks to a 6-2 semifinal win over the Burlington Eagles Gold, and Mallory and David Barber also finding the back of the net.

With offensive contributions coming from up and down the lineup, Milton cruised through round-robin play — with blowouts over the West Ferris Trappers (10-1), Toronto Aeros (7-1) and Toledo Cherokee (6-0).

Nolan Hendry had four goals and an assist in the tournament opener and Barber delivered a hat-trick in game two.
